Check level by the manual
Oil checks are model-specific. Some dipsticks are read screwed in; others are read resting on the threads. The RV should be level, the generator should be off, and the oil should have had time to drain back. Guessing can lead to underfill or overfill.
Low oil, overfill and wrong oil can all cause trouble
Low oil can trigger protection. Overfilled oil can foam, smoke or create unstable running. Wrong viscosity can make hot or cold operation worse. Use the oil type and quantity listed for the exact model/spec and ambient conditions.
If the level is correct but the code returns
Do not assume the sensor is bad. Actual oil pressure, wiring, connector faults, engine wear, overheating or shutdown during another failure can be involved. Preserve the code and operating conditions for service.
Watch for related symptoms
- Shutdown after the generator heats up.
- Shutdown when the RV is parked off-level.
- Smoke after recent oil service.
- Oil smell, leaks or wet dirt around the pan.
- Fault returns immediately after restart.

Sources and review notes
Oil checking procedure, oil quantity and viscosity must come from the operator manual for the installed model/spec. Cummins provides manual lookup on its RV generator manuals page.
