Safety first: Turn the refrigerator off immediately for ammonia odor, yellow powder or liquid, boiler-area heat damage, smoke or a tripped high-temperature safety device. Do not bypass an HTS recall device or perform a hardwire power-board reset.

The Norcold no co message means “no cooling” was detected during a monitored cooling period. It does not identify one failed part. Ventilation, leveling, door use, a missing heat source or a cooling-unit problem can all prevent the expected temperature drop.

What happens next depends on whether this is the first occurrence or a repeated lockout. That distinction is why resetting the board before diagnosing the cause can be unsafe.

Confirm that the code belongs to this model

Norcold uses different displays across N6/N8, N1095, 1200 and other gas/electric families. Some show “no” and “co”; others use a five-flash LED pattern. Record the model, serial number and exact indicator before using a code chart.

This article does not apply to N8DC/N10DC 12V compressor refrigerators.

What the no co monitor is looking for

On applicable absorption models, the controls watch fresh-food fin temperature while calling for cooling. If temperature does not fall enough during the monitoring sequence, the active heat source is shut down and the no-cooling fault is displayed.

The code therefore reports a failed cooling result—not necessarily a failed control board.

Handle the first occurrence correctly

Applicable Norcold manuals allow the first no co occurrence to be cleared once by turning the refrigerator off and back on. Before doing so, check the reason it may not have cooled: the RV is within the model’s leveling limits, exterior vents are clear, the doors seal, the interior is not packed solid and the selected heat source is actually working.

After restarting, monitor cabinet temperature with a thermometer. Do not leave the refrigerator unattended and assume the reset fixed it.

A second no co is a service lockout

If the refrigerator fails to complete a full cooling cycle and displays no co again, applicable controls lock out the heat sources. Norcold directs owners to authorized service. The hardwire board-reset procedures copied online are service procedures, not a substitute for finding a blocked vent, failed heater, burner problem or unsafe cooling unit.

Do not jumper board pins or ground terminals. A reset without a repair can restore heat to a unit that has already failed two cooling checks.

Check the installation and operating conditions

  • Level the parked RV within the limits in the exact refrigerator manual.
  • Remove storage, nests and debris from the lower intake and upper exhaust path.
  • Confirm the selected AC or propane heat source is operating.
  • Check door closure, gasket contact and excessive frost.
  • Allow an empty, warm refrigerator adequate cooling time without frequent door opening.

Watch for cooling-unit and recall warnings

Ammonia odor or yellow residue can indicate a leaking absorption cooling unit; shut it down and ventilate the RV. Certain Norcold 1200-series refrigerators fall within a high-temperature-sensor recall. Use the model and both serial-number ranges on Norcold’s current recall page, and do not operate a recalled unit that has not been professionally corrected.

Tools, difficulty and evidence for service

  • Owner tools: model/serial photos, refrigerator thermometer, level and flashlight.
  • Owner work: first-occurrence operating-condition checks and one manual-approved power cycle.
  • Service work: repeated lockout, heater/burner output, thermistor, ventilation installation and cooling-unit diagnosis.
  • Bring to service: exact code pattern, occurrence count, energy source and temperature history.

Frequently asked questions

What does no co mean on a Norcold refrigerator?

It means the controls did not detect the expected cooling progress during a monitored cooling period. The code does not identify a single failed part.

Can I reset a Norcold no co code myself?

Applicable manuals allow one normal off/on reset for the first occurrence. If no co returns before a full cooling cycle, Norcold calls for service rather than an owner-performed hardwire reset.

Is a Norcold no co code caused only by propane?

No. The monitor is checking cooling performance. Ventilation, leveling, door sealing, electric or gas heat-source problems and the cooling unit can all be involved.
