Use enough water
The black tank needs water to carry solids away from the toilet drop zone. Too little water causes pyramids, odors and sensor contamination. Keep the black valve closed during normal use, even at full-hookup sites.
Dump in the right order
Dump black first, then gray to rinse the hose. If the tank has a flush connection, use it only with the dump valve open unless the manufacturer states otherwise. A closed tank can overfill quickly.
False sensor readings
Internal probes can read full when tissue or waste film bridges the sensors. Soak, flush, drive-to-slosh and repeat. If readings are always unreliable, external sensor upgrades may help.
Odor paths
Odor can come from an empty toilet bowl seal, failed toilet floor seal, blocked roof vent, loose air-admittance valve, dry P-trap, or open bathroom fan pulling tank air upward during flushing.
Prevent clogs
Use RV-safe tissue in reasonable amounts and plenty of water. Do not rely on chemicals to compensate for poor habits. If the toilet burps or drains slowly, treat the tank as restricted or full.
When to get help
Call service for stuck valves, repeated clogs, damaged flush connections, tank leaks, vent repairs on the roof or any situation where waste backs up into the RV.
